"Casually fine dining". Although restaurant's prices, menu items and food prep give customers the impression that this is a tight-collared fine dining place. No way... it is a very casual environment... do not wear shorts, flip-flops and a backwards hat by any means. People still come dressed to impress, but it does not mean you cannot wear a nice pare of jeans with a dressy pair of shoes. Use your own discretion... you will know what I mean, when you enter the restaurant. During my visit, it was a lovely evening to sit on the courtyard area, so that is where we ended up. The first time I have ever been given a bowl of pork rinds instead of bread... very interesting. From where I come from, pork rinds are not exactly a high-class snack, but more of a liquor store purchase. Vino... we needed vino and that was what we got! I felt like I needed a bit more after my long day... so a Mint Julep did the trick! The waitress was very prompt, when it came to taking our order. So, I went with the oyster salad! Boy, was I impressed! Not only was the price affordable (not overly outrageous), but it incredible! The oysters were cooked perfectly, tossed with a bed of greens and a light dressing! I have recently grown accustomed to oysters and will probably eat them in any way, shape or form; however, I still prefer mine fried. Battered and fried was how my oysters came on my salad! I enjoyed it very much... devoured it, actually. I will be back! As a new Baton Rouge resident, I've been here twice. Each visit was great! The food is creative, but with a southern flair; and the beer and cocktails have not disappointed. Artichokes with fried arugula are especially memorable! Yum!

Found this place the same way I find most new places; Yelp. I read the menu & knew we had to eat here! We live in Lafayette and would (and will) gladly make the trip back to try what we didn't get to! We didn't even make it to the entrees but stayed on small plates. The soups, oysters & mussels are top notch. The dessert (a chocolate creme cup) was to die for. The drink menu was neat & the Pimm's Up was a grown up version of the Pimm's Cup. My one complaint was the hostess. Aloof, unprofessional & completely ignorant of what a hostesses duties are. Other than that? Get over there & get those oysters. Stat!

Mixed experience during lunch today. Service was brisk and ambience was enjoyable with live music. Food preparation was disappointing compared to prior visits. My selection of the grilled gulf fish and stewed okra was pretty good, just as I expected really. My companion's catfish, shrimp, and dirty rice was terrible, however. I sampled her items and had it been my order, I would have sent it back. The shrimp and the catfish both had odd tastes--or maybe it was the creole sauce used on both. Whatever, it had an off-putting, almost chemical-like flavor. The dirty rice, sadly, was heavily over seasoned with sage so that much of the meal carried that flavor as well. That being noted, the small group at the table agreed that it proved to be an enjoyable casual lunch spot for Sunday afternoon.

I have been here a few times. Hands-down the best cocktails in Baton Rouge. Great ambience on the weekends with an acoustic musician (which has never been too loud) , a very different vibe for this area. This restaurant reminds me of something out of New Orleans. If you are going to bring a group, make reservations. They do have an addition now with a great party room. They also have a patio for those handful of beautiful days that we get here in Baton Rouge. I've been to brunch here twice and the first time I got the chicken and waffles which I was very disappointed in and today at brunch I found that the biscuit left a little to be desired but other than that the eggs were done perfectly and the bourbon and milk punch was delicious.

I have been here multiple times before, and always sat in their wine room. So when the project partner asked for a christmas dinner place for 10 people the day he wanted it, I was just glad they had availability. I had no problems with reservations the day of even and the person on the phone was very helpful. Not having a per person minimum in their wine room definitely sealed the deal for me. Now, I think it is kind of a stretch calling it the wine room - there are about 30 wine bottles there in total - some of them looked simply decorative sitting on the dvider windoe sill and NOT real wine bottle, haha. The chair in the room are VERY uncomfortable according to me, and also the space is very tight I feel. But again, thats neither here, neither there. Now while the place is definitely very relaxed and casual (our servers were sweet and smiling always), I do think it is a bit overpriced for the food they serve. I love the fact that they bring those pork rinds for you to chomp on while you wait for food. Now, I was a veggie both times I was here, so I did not taste them, but the rate at which these disappeared from the table, I can say folks loved them :) THeir craft cocktails, I think are great conceptually, but I think some of them missed the mark with execution. Their version of a moscow mule comes in a hearty steel mug, which is a great touch, but was way too bitter for instance - again, this might be just me. I had a cocktail with the satsuma juice in it, and that was too sweet and tart at the same time - which was weird. I did like the fact that they used fresh satsuma juice to make it though. For the food, I think I absolutely love their artichokes, SO yum and I also loved my beet salad. I had a chance to have the potato gnocchi, and it was delish!! It was soft and pillowy - complete yumminess! One of my friends had the steak and he did not like it. The fish and chips (special for the day) was ordered by 4 different people and I think all of them loved it. The boudin balls were ok, I think some folks had reservations about the actual texture with those. Over all, service was good, ambiance was fine and the food/ drinks were a hit/ miss depending on what you got. Will I be back here? Maybe if someone wanted to come here - I wouldn't necessarily seek out the place by myself again.

My parents and I ate brunch here on Saturday. Our server, Jonathan, was wonderful, and worked with us on our various food intolerances and preferences. Because it was brunch (I mean really, it was lunch, but brunch just sounds fancier) I got a mimosa (day drinking!! thumbs up). We all split an app of boudin balls with red bean hummus, my mom got the mixed greens salad, I got the curried chicken salad on lettuce instead of the pretzel bun, and my dad got the seafood salad with a side of grits. They had a delicious sounding watermelon-tomato gazpacho but we didn't order it. We ended our meal with a fruit sorbet, in a perfect portion. I had never been to Beausoleil and my first experience was great! It certainly won't be my last. If you have Jonathan as your server, ask him to show you some of his photos from his Southeast Asia trip, they were incredible (yes, we all became best friends over brunch).

I had dinner here recently with friends. When the waiter brought the check, we didn't look at it and just asked to have it split evenly. When he brought back our receipts to sign, we all signed and left. About a week later, we all noticed that a different amount was charged than what we signed. Apparently the waiter undercharged us and took it upon himself to recharge after we left w/o authorization. This is highly unethical and the restaurant should have eaten their mistaken. When we called about it, they sided w/the waiter who was "protecting the restaurant". I will never eat here again.

Had Fathers Day Brunch here and really enjoyed ourselves. From the small plate Fried Oysters to the Crab Cake Eggs Benedict not to mention the live musician performing we were very impressed. The service was very good and fast as well. We will be back.

I have no reason not to award the 5star (a rare moment in history). First I like the setup. One side of the restaurant is more casual bar sip, eat, drink. The other side is more formal dining. Live great guitarist and singer (keep forgetting his name, great voice though). Next I found they have the best grits in Baton Rouge. I've eaten at about 12 diff places and these grits kicked my ass. The duck was great too. I was only there for brunch (twice). The servers and staff there are very friendly and professional ( but not over friendly like they know your sister or something) I'm picky when it comes to brunch. This place has my vote hands down. If I lived here it would be my neighborhood spot for sure.

Hidden in a strip mall, this place is quite the great find! We stopped by for brunch and we were pleasantly surprised. Let's start with the appetizers - the free pork rinds were amazing! It's always good to have a free snack at the table. Then the boudin balls were well seasoned and had a great consistency. We also had boiled peanuts but they were a bit salty, good but salty. The entrees didn't miss and flavor at all. I had the crab cake Benedict. It was flavored very well and the hollandaise was so sweet and buttery. My friend ordered the seafood omelette. It was a good portion and tasted very good as well. Finally my other friend had the southern fried chicken and biscuits. It was amazing! The biscuit was homie - tasted like someone's grandma made it. The chicken was seasoned and delish. The DRINKS! OMG The pear French 75 and the sazarac were some of the best drinks I've ever had in BR. I can't wait to come back for dinner.

This one of my favorite places in Baton Rouge. I love that their menu is seasonal, but also include their some of their popular items. I'm always curious to see what combinations they come up with next. Their cocktails are also some of the best in Baton Rouge in my opinion. I love that more local places are growing and using their own fresh herbs in cocktails. The opening of the bar makes it easier to get a table and gives the drinkers a great place to hang out, watch tv, chat, and nibble!

Great atmosphere and brunch til 3 is very convenient. $2.50 domestic beer you find very often in BR. I got the duck confit hash, French onion soup, and the omelet. Incredible!

After many visits to Beausoleil, I can say that it is one of, if not my #1, my favorite places to go in Baton Rouge. The service is consistently great and the food delicious. One of the great things about Beausoleil is how they update the menu with whatever produce is in season. For example, the scallops are almost always on the menu, but depending on the season, I've seen them served over a risotto, brussel sprouts or spaghetti squash. They also do a good amount of local sourcing for the ingredients, which is an added perk-- not only is it fresh, it's also local. Some favorites on the menu: Turtle Soup au Sherry-- whatever they do to the veal stock is delicious Sautéed veal sweet bread Stockpot of mussels-- they don't have mussels and frites on the menu anymore, but if you ask they will bring out a side of frites for you to dip in the yummy saffron sauce Shredded rabbit with spatzel Beef short ribs-- recently featured in 225 magazine and with good reason. It is phenomenal. For brunch, try the crab cakes. Actual lumps of crabmeat. The only thing I have ever had there that I didn't care for was the seafood salad. It comes covered in a white remoulade sauce that I thought was kind of bland and could have used something else to kick it up a bit. But overall, I heartily recommend Beausoleil to everyone and am always excited to go there.

This place is pretty neat. I've been on a Sunday for brunch and they had live music which added great ambiance. I had the cream cake Benedict in my first visit, my egg was a bit over cooked. If you order this see if they'll add a fried tomato to it, it's a really yummy pairing. On my most recent visit I had the fried oyster salad. It was MUY delicioso lol. I would definitely order it again. Apparently the bblt is pretty legit also as it is po boy style and has a fried green tomato. yum. I dig their decor, it's cozy and they even have an additional bar in the over flow room so you can order mimosas while you wait on your table. And they give you an order of pork rinds as you wait for your food to come. Who needs bread when you have pork rinds!

Definitely recommend this spot. Nice atmosphere. Adam was or server and he was super helpful and answered several of our questions. We started with the truffle fried oysters which were fantastic! We also got a cup of the turtle soup and that was amazing as well. My husband ordered the catfish entrée and cleaned his plate. I was torn between the duck and the lamb. Decided on the duck and was not at all disappointed. We will definitely be back!

Service was good, but the best part of the meal was the pork cracklings set on my table before ordering. The catfish poboy was served in a sad and airy baguette, which could have been overlooked if the catfish was good, but it was bland. There was hardly anything I could taste in the aoili, nothing from the sad little slivers of pickle, a little moisture from the tomato. The predominant taste was from the very, very sad piece of lettuce. The mac and cheese looked fantastic, but it was just loaded with greasy cheese. I'm sure it was cheddar--sufficiently colored orange--but bland. Summary: bland and sad.

I hate giving 2 stars because I wanted to like this place more than I experienced. We stopped in here for restaurant week and right from the get go, it seems like we were in for an odd experience. The front of house was a bit disorganized as the manager and hostess were trying to figure out where to seat everyone. It seemed a bit haphazard. We finally sat and ordered the hummingbird and sazerac cocktails. Both of which were OK but there are much better renditions of both drinks elsewhere. I liked the bacon wrapped shrimp with chili sauce as they were nicely cooked and a great lingering tingle from the chili. My date thought they were over cooked though. The mussels pomodoro were way too old and definitely off. After two rotten mussels, I had to stop to save myself from the inevitable consequence of eating bad mussels. Turns out I wasn't the only one with the bad mussels as the woman at the table next to ours made a classic face of disgust induced from bivalves past their prime and she confirmed they were off. The entrees were exceptionally poor. The quail "confit" was definitely not confit and it was dry, tough, and bland. The fried grit cake was really delicious and crispy with the sweet chili dressing. It was the best item of the night. The worst dish, though, was the seared wahoo. This was among the most poorly prepared pieces of fish I've had in a restaurant. It wasn't old or off, though. It was way over cooked and dry like a tough piece of chicken. You shouldn't need a steak knife to cut fish! Perhaps it was seared off beforehand and held in a warmer. The pea ragout had neither peas nor was it a ragout. It consisted of undercooked black eyed peas and overcooked bacon. There was no liquid in the "ragout" to tie everything together. Bread pudding didn't have white chocolate or caramel sauce but served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. While it wasn't what I expected, it was very delicious and a great version of bread pudding! The pot de creme had the perfect texture and flavors although I could have done with out the faux whipped cream topping. The only aspect saving this from a 1 star review was the service. I normally feel awkward complaining about food to our server but I felt the quality compelled me to. He was apologetic and gracious and did what ever he could to make up for it. The manager also spoke to us and took care of us the best he could. These kinds of things go a long way in my opinion so the service here is to be commended. As I mentioned earlier, I wanted to like this place more than I actually did. I'll have to try again when its not slammed.

Upon further review, this is the best of Baton Rouge restaurants. We ventured out a little for Restaurant Week and couldn't stay away from this place. They continuously lure you in with their innovation (and their damn free pork rinds) and the RW week menu was no exception. Part 1: General Tso's Cheeks - PLEASE Beausoleil, add this to your seasonal rotation. The cheeks were melt in your mouth tender with just the right amount of gameyness mixed with the sweet tang of the pepper jelly based sauce. SO GOOD. Part 2: Chicken with Prosciutto wrapped asparagus and Zapp's chips on top. Beausoleil, I've always despised asparagus and not for lack of trying. I've tried it every way known to man - except wrapped in prosciutto. You've made me an asparagus believer with this dish and the lemon beurre blanc sauce surrounding it. WELL DONE. Part 3: Cobbler. On its own, just another cobbler but with the requested ice cream scoop on top - delish. HOWEVER, it did nothing but make me want my sister's bread pudding. Sorry Beausoleil, I like the old favorite this time. What more can I say except if you want fine dining with or without the chain affiliation, this is your spot in Baton Rouge.

I really enjoyed my evening in this little gem of a restaurant! I ended up at Beau Soleil after going to Flemmings and seeing the bar area was too packed and the wait was too long! Although we were just about to miss the happy hour the nice waiter made sure we placed our first order before it was over! I thought that was super nice compared to some of the service you get in other place of this caliber when you ask about the Happy Hour specials! After being there for a while they had a one women band with a girl that sang her but off and she took request from the floor which I thought was nice and added the the welcoming vibe of the place. Now to the FOOD! I loved it all! I had truffle fried calamari and and stead that was to die for! My mom had a turtle soup that was awesome and we downed about two bottles of wonderfully suggested wine!

Beausoleil is my favorite restaurant in Baton Rouge. I have never had less than a stellar meal there! Service is wonderful and efficient by regular staff. Dinner or lunch, the food is consistently fabulous. I would recommend the house specials, usually fish, and the fried oysters with truffle oil are outstanding. That bartender makes exceptional martinis. Their pots de creme and bread pudding always make choosing difficult, but I could drink the bourbon sauce on its own. I highly recommend this wonderful place!

Very cute. Went on Wednesday night. A bit salty for my taste. Both our main dishes were great: seafood. Dark and Stormy cocktail was good, but a bit sweet. Overall, enjoy the concept and food was good!

I really enjoyed lunch there. The complimentary cracklins are excellent and I am not normally a fan. I had a salad with grilled shrimp over chilled pasta with peas, goat cheese, and a pistou sauce. It was really good. My lunch companions had a pork sandwich and chicken fried steak, and both were pleased with their choices. I definitely plan to go back in the future. Service was good and ambiance pleasant.

Omgeeee! New fav brunch place! Get the bacon bloody mary and the croquet monsieur! The sandwich is like a inside out hot ham and cheese- but with fancy cheese. The duck confiet hash is to die for...next time I go I may just order that. It was such a nice day that we sat outside. We really enjoyed ourselves.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place!! My boyfriend isn't quite as into different menus as I am so I don't get to enjoy this place as much as I would like. The beginning of the meal always starts with those wonderful pork skins...much better than any chips or bread. Then the menu is always changing with the seasons which makes this a great place to keep coming back to. I've eaten lovely sweetbreads here, a delightful dish of pork belly and cheeks over purple rice (words cannot describe the buttery goodness of this dish) and even great blood orange sorbet for dessert. OMG...I almost forgot to mention they infuse their own vodka!! The bacon bloody mary is out of this world! This is a must try for anyone looking for something out of the ordinary but delicious!!

We moved to Baton Rouge about a year ago and were so glad to find Beau Soleil. In a town that has an abundance of fried food and heavy Cajun fare, it is great to have a restaurant focused on providing local and sustainable product and not drowning dishes in sauce or batter. The seasonal menu changes are great. For Spring 2013 the pork chop it over-the-top good (and cooked medium to medium rare). Service is solid and Meghan is a stand out. Drinks are inventive and also change with the seasons. Louisiana has incredible home grown foods from sweet potatoes to strawberries to responsibly fished seafood. Thank you for Beau Soleil for celebrating what Louisiana has to offer.

Went to Beausoleil on Wednesday night for "Restaurant Week" and while I've had many good meals there, this was disappointing.... The portion sizes at Beausoliel (at dinner, anyways) are pretty small to begin with, but the portion sizes for the "restaurant week" specials were exceptionally small. If you don't know how "Restaurant Week" works, several local restaurants offer a 3-course meal with a set, discounted price for a week. We all four ordered from the "Restaurant Week" menu and even though we ordered an ADDITIONAL App, we actually all left wanting to go to another Restaurant Week restaurant.... We ended up settling on going home and eating the other half of our babysitters pizza! The Wahoo that my wife ordered was very dry, tough and overcooked... And of course , it was probably a 2 ounce portion. I got the skirt steak which tasted great but it was overcooked (and small), as was the lobster claw that came with it. The lobster was rubbery and I felt like it was cooked earlier in the day and then reheated in a microwave.... Another person in my group got the quail confit and this was exceptionally disappointing because IT WAS NOT CONFIT!!! It was dry and tough. It was "roasted quail," not "quail confit." In the past, I've been with people who ordered the Duck Confit and it was the same way. No indication whatsoever of an actual confit process. Another person at our table got an additional order of the corn risotto which honestly needed SOMETHING.... Salt , pepper, sugar, anything... It was pretty bland. Also - I got a Mississippi Mule, which is their take on a Moscow Mule, and while it was good it was just too sweet.... On a positive note, the oyster app and the mussels are ALWAYS phenomenal and we enjoyed them! You really need to order a side of French bread to mop up the mussel juice though.... I feel like they should provide that anyways. And the Pot de Creme was spot on as well. And our server, who didn't know the difference between Mussels and oysters (NOT her fault, that's a managers job to educate), was very sweet and took care of us well. All in all, I like Beausoliel but this was definitely not my best experience. I hope that they will increase their portion sizes to match the price (which isn't exorbitant, but for what you pay you shouldn't leave hungry) and I wish they would learn how to make confit....

Had an absolutely wonderful evening at Beausoleil. From the wait staff to the food to the ambiance, everything about the experience was excellent. We arrived around 5:30 for an early dinner without a reservation. We were quickly seated at a table with one booth seat and one table seat. The waiter stopped by promptly to take our drink orders and tell us the specials. I had the house chardonnay which was delicious. My date had two mixed drinks that he said were great - and strong. The mixed drink menu has lots of great options - interesting and different. Each table gets an order of cracklins, homemade, which were delicious but very salty. We ordered two small plates, the oysters and the meatballs, and one entree, the beef short ribs with orzo mac and cheese. All three of these dishes were a-mazing. The oysters are fried and served with truffle oil and parmesan - delicious. The meatballs were above grits, steaming hot and just the right portion. The beef short ribs are encased in a crust, and the orzo mac and cheese was to die for. I wish I would use more objective terms to describe this meal, but it was just so amazing you need to go try for yourself! We wanted to try the white chocolate bread pudding, but we had a schedule to keep and were pretty full. Two small plates and an entree were almost too much food for the two of us - we left satisfied and comfortably shy of stuffed. The waiter mentioned that they change the menu twice per year. The restaurant was full by the time we left (just after 7:00 pm), so I'd imagine that a reservation would be a good idea for later in the evening. Overall highly recommended.

Finally getting around to reviewing this restaurant. I was so upset when The Silver Spoon went out of business and it became Beau Soleil. They had some big shoes to fill. It rose up to the bar. The restaurant is great. It's still got the same cute little atmosphere. I like the little outside patio on the side by School Time. They do brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. I thought brunch was mostly a Sunday deal. Their brunch menu was great. I had the French onion soup. It was to die for. We also had some sort of fried shrimp app over a salad. Yum! My sister ordered the BBLT sandwich which was great as well. I believe it was bacon, Bibb lettuce, fried egg, tomato, the usual. They have a speciality drink menu with drinks I've never heard of before. The Pear French 75 was amazing! Not on a brunch day, I enjoy the mussels. I don't really like how they come with French fries, but that's my personal opinion. It's a little on the pricey side as well. Well, it gets pricey of you add a couple cocktails because they are about 10 bucks a piece. It's a great spot and I think everyone should give them a try at some point.

Fantastic food! Great service, bright and clean inside. The turtle soup was a bit darker than I'm used to, and it had a little heat in spices, but it was very, very good. The truffle oysters were perfect, very savory and perfectly fried, nice and crispy, no extra oil/grease. The special was a softshell crab sandwich - also very good. Pot de creme was like chocolate mousse and was very creamy and smooth. Even the raspberry tea was awesome. A lot of places just have flavored syrup, but theirs was a black tea with raspberry flavor infused with the tea. It was great! Everything was very, very good!

What a great surprise in venue. Found it actually on google but was happy to see it here on yelp. Order the soft shell crab and it was a great dish. Also had the pork check which was a great cut with a fork pulled meat.

The food was ok, I wasn't wowed buy the smoke salmon, which tasted store bought. The pork rinds were hard as rocks. And all the fired food tasted like it was fired with old fish oil.

This is a place where you can not only hit a home run, but a grand slam home run with your meal .. a WOW memorable experience. It's ambitious and has excellent talent in the kitchen (and creativity). With that ambition and creativity come some results that land with a bit of a thud, but never terrible. And I've not gotten that warm fuzzy that the waitstaff are really out to make the total Beausoleil experience a memorable one. You ought to give it a couple tries, and you could well keep it in your top 10, even high in your top 10. Maybe not for everyone though.

One of our best meals in our New Orleans/Baton Rouge/Lafayette tour. We made reservations for 2 and were seated right away. Bartender was kind enough to make me a milk punch even though it wasn't on the menu. Small plates of boudin balls and potato gnocchi, both were excellent and perfect for sharing. Roasted beet salad was heavenly. Dinner was the grilled pork chop and fish special, cabio grilled and served over a crunch cabbage slaw. Dinner was superb and our server Amber was great. Topped off the meal with white chocolate bread pudding and blackberry cobbler.

Over rated and over priced. French onion soup was average. Crawfish bisque not cery good. Ribeye was small and dry with "silken potatoes" that weren't even worthy of coming out of a box mix. Salmon was okay but not worth the price. Sides of bleu cheese onion and stone grits were the highlight of our meal. And the server, Jillian was excellent. She suggested a nice glass of wine to compliment what otherwise was a $98 for two flop for dinner tonight.

This place is consistently good. It has a comfortable setting and the really delicious food. The turtle soup is a must have, as well as the chocolate pots de creme. They even found a way to make a hamburger really special. C'est bon!

I thought I would drop in and pick up a hamburger to go. wrong! I got in my car and try dictated to eat while running errands... that was impossible because the burger was so huge I could not open my mouth big enough to fit that huge burger in it and as I try to bite it, the gravy juice was pouring out the back end of it and everything inside with slipping and sliding out of the burger it was so wet with Juice... And the worst part was that I could not even find one napkin in the bag. What a colossal mess! it comes with a side if you can call four onion rings equal to a side. The burger was pretty good if I had had a table to sit at and a knife to cut it in half in a truck load of napkins!

Outstanding meal. Outstanding service. The small plates were great. I will get the foie gras small plate every time I go back. You know it's good if it's illegal in California. Of the four of us, three had seafood main courses and concluded their seafood is probably their forte. The dessert, a Swiss chocolate custard thing was incredible. The real question is not whether the meal is worth the hour drive from Lafayette, it's how often?

This place pretends to be a fine dining place, but really it is just a strip mall restaurant with BAD (horrible) service and mediocre food. First, we were told to order a drink while we waited; only to be told they could not transfer our drinks from the bar to the table--which seemed strange because the restaurant was 1/3 full. When we ordered our entrees, my husband ordered his pork "medium rare," which the waitress said was "weird," because pork needed to be fully cooked (my husband is a chef, he knows this). He then said, "however the chef prefers." The pork then came RAW. My seafood salad was a bunch of seafood mixed with mayo on top of lettuce, and the moules frites (which I had to translate for our waitress) were chalky. Bottom line---you're trying to be a New Orleans restaurant, but with shitty service and bad food you're just a sad Baton Rouge wannabee.

Great jewel close to several hotels off of corporate. This is the only bar I've been to that has George Dickel #12 and 'Ale. A southern classic. Order the truffled oysters.

Yes, it's in a strip mall but don't underestimate the culinary prowess of this little bistro. They are devoted to supporting local purveyors and the flavors of the artisan growers are manifest in the cuisine here. The pork belly on creamy grits is outstanding, and paired nicely with a reasonably priced Chardonnay. The fried oysters with duck proscuitto on arugula was perfectly seasoned and dressed and their cracklings were worth carryiing the remainder home to PA. Can't wait to come back and try an entree! Service was attentive and helpful. Definitely the best meal that I had in 3 days of great meals in this regional foods Mecca.

Anyone who doesn't like this place doesn't enjoy food. They are constantly experimenting with new takes on old standards and trying new things as well. Certainly they're not perfect but they are interested in their customers opinions both good and bad. If you are looking for the same tired old stuff go elsewhere. There's plenty of that in Baton Rouge. The owners care and are having fun with what they love. Ask for a pickle-back from the bar.

For casual non pretentious dining with excellent service and fantastic innovative twists on Louisiana classics this is the place to go. Every dish I have tried has been top notch. Also if you are not into wine and want to stick with scotch or bourbon on the rocks this is also an excellent place to go.

Beausoleil may very well be my new favorite restaurant! It was amazing! We met Chef Nathan and Jeff, who are great, talented people with a real vision for this restaurant- Everything we got was a home run from the moment we stepped in the door! It was cozy and casual with a wide mix of patrons. The food was French-inspired and gourmet, but very reasonably priced. Every single thing on the menu was calling my name. I started with a "dirty water", their version of a dirty martini, which was spot-on with a little kick of hot sauce- they serve homemade crackling instead of bread, which was a nice surprise and the perfect accompaniment to our cocktails. Then I had French onion soup followed by a duck confit salad. Again, A-mazing. The portions were perfect. Not too big, but not too small. We had coffee and pots-de-crème for dessert, which might be the best thing I've ever tasted. Coming from a passionate foodie, that's a lofty statement. The grand total was around $40 for both of us. Not bad at all! So I think it has replaced our current favorite restaurant. It's wayyyy better and the people made all the difference too. They make everything from scratch in-house and get all their ingredients locally. It's so nice to have such a personable neighborhood restaurant that is at a good price point with top-tier fare. Chef Nathan even makes his own pickles!- we tried them, and they were great! They also make a bacon bloody mary, which I wasn't sure about, but they brought us a sample and it was awesome. Clearly I am still under the intoxicating spell of a perfect dining experience.

We will definitely not give this restaurant a 2nd chance whatsoever. We are highly disappointed considering that we read the reviews prior to reserving it for a birthday dinner celebration. The service was absolutely the worse and the restaurant wasn't even filled to capacity. The food came out really late and lukewarm. We all ordered all types of entrees and not one stood out. We dine out a lot and eat all over the world. For us to go through this type of service and for the amount we paid is absolutely a disgrace. They didn't bring out a complimentary dessert for the birthday girl either like all restaurants would normally do.

I've eaten at Beausoleil twice and always had 5-star food. Both times my food was fresh, great ingredients very tastefully prepared, and pretty to look at! Last night I had the veal cheeks and gravy on grits - and LOVED it. Such wonderful comfort food! Very tender meat, everything tasted good, and it was a nice sized portion. Mixed drinks from the bar are equally good and pretty. Last night I tried the Snowflake martini, which I recommend. And I sampled a friend's scrumptious bread pudding. There are two reasons I didn't rate my experience 5-star. One is that the thick pork chop served to a dinner companion seemed very undercooked to her. (See another review that also mentions their undercooking pork.) The second reason is that I had to send back my ticket twice before it was in the ballpark for what I owed. We were using our Little Theater discount but were greatly undercharged and not everything we ordered was on the ticket. Then I was given someone else's ticket. I'm not convinced that our tickets were ever fully correct, but we finally left when it seemed close enough to be fair to all. This was not the best way to end our above-average dinner experience. We ate at Beausoleil on a Saturday night when LSU was playing out of town. Perhaps potential customers were at home keeping up with the game score. But it made me nervous to see more empty tables than when I was last there. That's a shame. It made me worry that we might lose this special treasure. Baton Rouge foodies, give this restaurant a try. Management, please do everything you can to keep this great place going. I want to be able to come again and again.

Great service, nice ambience for baton rouge and my husband said the cocktails were amazing. So five stars if you are just having drinks. Now for the food- husband had the mussels which he said were the worst he ever had and possibly not fresh. I had the steak frites and I was underwhelmed by the quality of the meat. And no dipping sauce came with the fries- when I asked for one they gave me a bottle of ketchup. The appetizers were slightly better- but still lacking. I ordered some type of fried eggplant crisps which were just not very good and my husband got a gnocchi dish with cream sauce, peas and pancetta I think which was tasty- but how could you mess that up? Seriously disappointed in the quality of the food.

Once again I had a great experience at Beausoleil. Colleagues and I decided to go for a late lunch on Friday and the atmosphere was great, everything you could want on a Friday afternoon, if I hadn't been driving one of our party to the airport later I would have loved to have stayed for a few drinks. The food was really good as well. The table shared two orders of the fried eggplant, which is sliced paper thin and super crispy and was served with some of the best red gravy I've had this side of my Italian ex's father's Sunday gravy. I also had the duck confit salad which was very fresh but could have used a little more goat cheese and for the roasted pecans to be bigger than the tiny pieces that eventually made their way to edge of plate as they were too small to be picked up by the fork. The salad had a light balsamic dressing and plenty of mostly ripe strawberries. I do have to say that I think calling the ample amount of duck that graced the salad "confit" might have been a stretch as it resemble more of yielding from a technique more akin to roasting or broiling. This duck was moist and tender but lacked flavor. All in all a good salad and great lunch.

This cozy little place serves awesome bistro food with Louisiana influences. I had the french onion soup, and the mussels with frites. Yeah I know why would i get these items? well yes they are typical french fare but I always order these items to judge the rest of the restaurant's food. When the host take to my seat a gentleman sent me some pork rinds rather then bread. I'm a huge man of crunch and pig a match made in heaven so this was going to be a good start. The server gave me suggestions like the french onion soup and the specials but my mind was already set on the mussels and frites. I asked for bread as well to soak up the broth from the mussels. This was by far one of the best mussels and frites with a nice dallop of garlic mayo. I was also treated to a banana's foster ice cream with butterscotch sauce. too good, it was crack addicting good! so yeah i'm coming back for the other food, chef Nathan was also present the other night and I had a chance to speak to him. great person and no wonder he was selected as 1 of the top chefs to watch for in Louisiana Cookin' Magazine. Well done to the entire staff at Beausoleil!

Yay, what a pleasing find! I now have all of TWO restaurants in Baton Rouge that serve classic cocktails. Beasoleil is easy to miss from the outside, but has a cozy and cutely decorated interior. Everyone on the staff is friendly and welcoming. I tried two of their cocktails - a rosemary lemon martini (tasty and subtle, but would have been better with Hendrick's gin) and the Pimms Up (an entertaining twist on a classic Pimms Cup, where the gin is replaced with cucumber vodka and the drink is served shaken in a martini glass, rather than over ice. It was a cool variation, but could have used just a touch of simple syrup to bring out the flavor of the Pimms). My second drink order was actually an Aviation (I wanted to try their variation, made with Bitter Truth Violet Bitters, rather than real Crème de Violette, just to see if it was a clever idea or a terrible idea) but alas they were out of Maraschino liqueur. Ah well, another time. Choosing a dinner entrée was incredibly hard, given how many delicious things were on the menu (The goat cheese and beat salad and the duck-prosciutto appetizer were nearly impossible to resist). In the end I asked the waitress to help me choose between the seared tuna and the duck confit over butternut squash risotto. Given how cold and awful the weather was, she recommended the latter (though she said it was tough to decide, since they were her two favorite dishes). The portion size on the duck was larger than I expected, and the risotto portion a little smaller, so it balanced out; it was a good amount of quality food for the price. The flavors of the components worked very well together, though the duck confit could have been just a little sweeter (I'm forever spoiled on this dish by Park Café, so maybe my standards are too high). I polished off all but one or two delicious bites of duck, and I was far too stuffed to even consider dessert; a shame since the menu looked divine. I'm very happy with Beausoleil, and I'll definitely be back. It's pretty likely I'll bump this review up to 5 stars if it is equally delicious next time. I'd rank this place over Juban's - the food and drinks are about the same quality, but the price is better at Beausoleil. I also prefer the decour of Beausoleil over Juban's; it's a little less overblown, and the air of the place is a little less... snooty than Juban's can sometimes be.

Wonderful experience! The food was delicious and I was most impressed with the fantastic cocktails. They made the best sidecar I've had...maybe ever! Atmosphere is more on the cafe side of things and a little noisy, but it was probably the best meal I've had in Baton Rouge.

Cozy little place with somewhat upscale food, but in a casual setting. Everything we've had here has been great. Cocktails aren't quite up to the level of Olive or Twist, but are almost always really good. Pretty good wine list as well.
